I get so many enquiries from both Corporate and personal clients on weight loss. Sometimes on discussion, I just know this person isn’t ready yet and it would be a waste of my time and his/hers to go ahead.
Here are 3 questions I ask before taking on a weight loss client and you should also check for in yourself if you want to embark on a weight loss journey.
1. What’s your WHY?
It has to be personal! I can’t over emphasise this point. Weight Loss is not an easy task to take on and if the reason for it is not absolutely personal, then you will fall off the wagon along the road. It can’t be about what people are saying. It has to be about what you are feeling. For example, when I wanted to lose about 16kg late 2013, it was about the fact that I was always tired and I could hardly play with my children and husband. If I continued that way, there would have been more consequences than the health ones. So my “why?” was very personal!
2. How long are you committed for?
I’ve had clients who wanted to lose 20kg in 2 months. While this is possible with some weight loss programs these days, it’s very unhealthy for you (your skin, liver kidneys will be overtakes and sometimes damaged), and some of these methods are absolutely unsustainable! It takes time to pile on the weight I and a miracle is not going to get it off. Weight Loss should be seen as a means to an end and not an end in itself. Its not enough to be skinny, the ultimate goal is to be healthy and fit. I love this Instagram hashtag #healthyisthenewskinny, it describes how I feel about weight loss. If you are going to do it, do it right.
3. Are you willing to be accountable?
With weight loss and healthy living, you have to be ready for accountability. It takes breaking and forming habits and as human beings, we veer off the road when we don’t have someone checking on us, and sometimes breathing down our necks. Anyone who isn’t ready for (or doesn’t have) such support in family, friends or a coach like me, may have it difficult.
There you go. So next time you consider shedding some weight, be sure to ask yourself these 3 questions.
If you have and are ready for the journey, I can help you. Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or a Whatsapp message to 08154928659.
